There are 14 labs in GICE with widespread research interest. Among these 14 labs, the research field can be divided into three main categories in order to equip enrolled students with integrated capability of analysis and design in both software and hardware realms:

  1. Communication systems
    The research field in this category includes:
    • Communication theory and technologies:
      Spread spectrum communication systems, error correction code, optical communication systems, OFDM systems, and next-generation communication systems
    • Communication signal processing:
      Adaptive signal processing, smart antenna, software-define radio, baseband signal processing and multi-user detection
    • Communication circuit design:
      Advance communication IC design and SOC
  2. Network technologies
    The research field in this category includes:
    • Wireless network:
      Quality of service, wireless sensor network and next-generation wireless network
    • Broadband network:
      Real-time multimedia streaming, multi-layer protocol switch, high speed switch and next-generation network
    • Applications in network:
      E-learning, Digital right management, database, network security, and network management
  3. Signal processing:
    The research field in this category includes:
    • Audio processing: Audio signal processing and digital hearing aids
    • Image processing: Pattern recognition, digital watermark, image compression and medical image processing
    • Video processing: video signal processing, mutlimedia processing, multimedia transport systems, video fault tolerant design and video database
